- Surgery well tolerated: According to several series, after surgery 72–95% of patients were neurologically better or were the same as before surgery. The condition of 8–28% worsened (6, 22, 46, 65).
- Radiation treatment well tolerated: New neurological deficits due to adverse radiation effects following SRS was 13.5% among 68 patient received Gamma knife radiosurgery for brainstem cavernous hemangioma from 1998 to 2005, with most occurred in the early cases of the series (42).
- Radiation of hemosiderin-stained tissue may increase complications: Radiation to hemosiderin-stained regions may increase the risk of adverse effects from the radiation because hemosiderin may be a radiation sensitizer.
