Surgical
- Shunt malfunction and infection: Shunt malfunction and infection remain complications after revision, as with any shunt intervention (see Hydrocephalus chapter).
- ETV complications – injury: There is increased risk for hemorrhagic complications and neurological injury due to the difficulty in navigating small ventricles of children with slit ventricle syndrome undergoing an ETV. This major morbidity, however, is rare with modern endoscopic techniques.
- Blood loss during cranial expansion: Cranial expansion and subtemporal decompression require preparation for blood loss during surgery.
