Frequency of Office Visits
- Wound check: Obstetric follow-up is conducted 2 weeks postoperatively to ensure appropriate wound healing and patient health.
- Weekly fetal monitoring: Following discharge, the mother is evaluated using ultrasound each week. Any concerning findings, such as inadequate fetal growth, membrane separation, or oligohydramnios, will prompt twice- or even thrice-weekly check-ups. If signs of fetal distress are encountered, admission and continuous monitoring may be necessary.
Frequency of Imaging
- Weekly fetal monitoring: An ultrasound is performed to assess the health of the developing fetus following fetal myelomeningocele repair surgery at least once a week. More frequent monitoring may be needed as noted in the second bullet above.
